The Importance of the Lowly Footer for SEO and More

One of the most important and often overlooked sections of local websites is the lowly footer.

The footer is the section that sits at the bottom of each of your web pages and is exactly the same on every page.

Foot with Fern

The footer is important to round up the most important information about your company in a succinct fashion and have it displayed on every page of your website.

When a person arrives at the bottom of your page, if she hasn’t found what she’s looking for yet, she can glance at the footer for her next click.

In addition to helping your visitor, the footer can help you get your most important keywords plus your geographic locations served on every page of your website. This is a big boost for getting better local search results.

Here’s an example: We sell fine furniture: living room sets, dining room furniture, bedroom sets including mattresses, home decor, and more in the following cities …

Generally, these are the items I like to include in the footers I write for my clients:

  • Company Name
  • Physical Address
  • Phone Number
  • Email Address
  • Store Hours
  • A brief but keyword rich description of your products and services
  • Cities Served
  • Links to Your Company’s Social Media Pages

Other items that may be included:

  • Navigation Links
  • Links to Financing Page
  • Links to Favorite Pages
  • Links to Review Sites
  • Copyright Years / All Rights Reserved
  • Licenses
  • Links to Legal Policies

If there’s something I’m missing that you think is valuable for a footer, do let me know! I’m always looking to improve that little guy!
