Check Your Rankings on AI Chatbots

We all know AI chatbots are affecting search patterns.

Often when you perform a Google search, a Gemini chatbot answer appears at the top of the page. You can get your answer right then and there with no click-to-website needed.

At a recent webinar with Neil Patel, I learned that AI traffic is still low compared to regular Google searches. However, that AI traffic converts better into leads or sales. That makes it valuable, especially as it will have even more search volume in the future.

When I work for my clients, besides checking their Google search results, I also check their chatbot results. So far, I’ve just been checking Gemini and ChatGPT.

Most of the time if they are doing well in Google / Gemini, they do well in ChatGPT. But not always.

When that happens, I check the citations in ChatGPT to see why my client’s competitors are ranking higher. It could be they have more Google reviews or they are picking up comments from LinkedIn. Then I recommend my client try to get more reviews or to be more active on Linkedin.

Citations also come from your website, Yelp reviews, dealer listings, chambers of commerce, Reddit and other forums, etc.

Easy Web Tip 380: Make sure you are discoverable on AI chatbots.

P.S. I’ve recently added Grok to my list. I choose which chatbot I’m going to use based on when a friend mentions he or she is using it. Very scientific.
