Know Your Website’s Login Information

Local clients and small business owners sometimes don’t want to be bothered with knowing anything about their websites.

They outsource their website tasks and that’s fine. I make a good living from that.

But over the years, I’ve found folks coming to me wanting help with their websites but having no clue how to access them. The web developer moved to Nepal or the nephew who built the site, nice as he is, flaked.

Depending on your platform, it’s not always easy for me or anyone else to retrieve login information. Sometimes I give up and just recommend a whole new site.

I understand not wanting another thing to deal with, but at the very least know your login info. Otherwise it’s like having a brick and mortar storefront but not knowing where the keys to the doors are and there is no locksmith to save you.

For myself, I like to have my personal passwords on cards in an old fashioned index file. Yes, I also store them digitally, but I just don’t trust an-all digital system. Heck, guys have lost hundreds of millions with digital wallets.

Easy Web Tip 329: Take the time to know and save your login credentials to your website.
