I don’t know EVERYTHING about online marketing for the Internet, and I’ve come to the conclusion that nobody does.
I know a lot about making websites effective and developing content. And I know quite a bit about pay-per-click campaigns, social media, email marketing, banner ads, etc. But I’m not equally proficient in all aspects.
This makes it very difficult for companies, especially smaller ones. They hire a firm to manage their pay-per-click campaigns, but the firm is lousy at helping them build effective sales landing pages.
Or the company hires an SEO firm that gets them improved rankings in search engines, but does little to help people actually click through to their clients’ websites.
Or a company hires a web development firm and they build a fancy site. But the pages are filled with blah-blah content.
And then there’s all that darned social media. Can the web developer do that? Probably not.
It’s very difficult for companies of all sizes to sort this mess out. And there are no easy answers.
There are companies that advertise themselves as one-stop shops, but I haven’t found a good one yet.
For now, my advice is to read about Internet online marketing whenever you can. See what makes sense to you. Much of it is not rocket science. As you become more knowledgeable, you’ll be able to make more informed decisions.
Easy Web Tip #69: Nobody knows it all when it comes to Internet online marketing. You need to educate yourself; be prepared to make mistakes and learn from them; and, be prepared to hire more than one person or firm.
